Physical Issues in Pregnancy

The past 2 classes in Homeopathy during Pregnancy and Birth, we learned about constipation, diarrhea and urinary troubles. Sounds very delicate, doesn't it? Let us look at the options homeopathy gives us in order to clear these troubles safely and swiftly.

Constipation and Diarrhea

As with every health trouble, in order to find the right remedy we need more than the official "diagnosis". To tell your homeopath you have Diarrhea is not going to help one bit, he (or she in my case) needs to know what type of diarrhea or what type of constipation are we are dealing with :

- soft stool passed with great straining - Alumina

- large, hard dry stools as if burnt - Bryonia

- large round balls stuck together with slimy mucus - Graphites

- constipation caused by iron pills - Ferrum met.

- irregular, dry, crumbling stools - Natrum mur.

- feeling of something "left behind" - Nux vomica

- bashful stools: starts out and get back - Silica

As you can see, there are many types, and I didn't write all the options. Great books out there can help you self-prescribe in that area and many others. In fact, homeopaths want their patient to be self-sufficient and take their health in their own hands. That's also why I'm teaching a few different classes in different health topics helped with homeopathy: pregnancy, ADHD, family pharmacy, etc.

Urinary Troubles

For more chronic issues, consulting a homeopath is a necessity. For instance, in one case of urinary tract infections coming every couple of weeks for years, we were able to stop them altogether after a remedy taken over a few months. Let's look at the different urinary problems we can help with homeopathy while pregnant (or otherwise):

- sudden retention of urine from chill or fright - Aconite

- persistent and violent urging, passing a few drops at a time - Cantharis

- persistent urging with intense burning, could be some blood in the urine - Mercurius

- frequent and painful urging with little results - Nux vomica

- sensation as if drop of urine rolling along urethra - Staphysagria

How do you know which dilution to use?

Here's a rule of thumb (it's not halacha mi Sinai and experience teaches better than any theory):

When you've got an acute situation (recent, less than 30 days) you can use a 200CH (that's the number after the name of the remedy when you order) and once or twice a day should be enough until the symptoms reduce significantly.

If you've got a chronic condition, a 9CH can work better, 3 times a day. You can use the pellets dry or in water, depending on your level of sensitivity (the more sensitive, the more dry pellets are used).

Anemia, Hemorrhoids and Varicose Veins during Pregnancy

Here are the main remedies we discussed in this particular class:

Hemorrhoids during Pregnancy

Aesculus & Hamamelis for Hemorrhoids: the rectum feels full of sharp sticks (ask the patient and she'll tell you in these same words). The piles are painful but do not bleed. Pains last for a long while after passing stool. The person needing Aesculus is worse when rising from a sitting position, from motion, even from stooping. Give her the cream (I sell it, not expensive) and she'll be forever grateful. You can also use pellets and treat internally.

Hemorrhoids during pregnancy are also healed with Collinsonia when there's a severe constipation in the picture, and the piles are bleeding.

All the remedies of course can be used also outside of the pregnancy state, should the symptoms match.

Sepia and Sulphur are also two great hemorrhoids remedy, depending on the patient's profile (everything in homeopathy is about individualisation).
With Sepia the hemorrhoids bleed while walking and with Sulphur they are oozing and burn. The first patient is chilly and irritable, the second always hot and not so tidy.

Varicose Veins and Pregnancy

If the leg veins are crooked and bulging, the mother will be relieved with Hamamelis two pellets three times per day (9CH) and the tincture can be applied directly on the inflamed areas. This is especially true when the leg feels sore and tired.
Bellis Perennis is also a "life-saver" when it comes to pregnancy troubles: inability to walk, varicose

veins, weakness of the bladder, constipation, hemorrhoids... Bellis perennis adresses the mechanical pressure on the tissues, just like Arnica. In fact, you could use this one or that one with almost the same results. We wrote an entire blog post about Precious Arnica

Anemia Remedies for Pregnant Women

Now let's discussed the options to help anemic women during pregnancy.
Ferrum phosphoricum and Calcium phosphoricum 6X (cell salts format) can be taken everyday (one in the morning and one in the evening) in order to raise the level of iron and make sure it is absorbed properly. This will be done without the side-effects of the conventional iron sold in stores (constipation, etc.)
Ferrum metallicum is also a great option for anemia with exhaustion and weakness. The face is pale and flushes easily from least pain, emotion or exertion. The patient likes summer, solitude, and moving about gently.

Diatomaceous Earth - DE - Friend or Foe?

There's a very popular topic around here should you need a subject of conversation - that's worms, yes, of the intestinal kind (not the intellectual kind. I used to be a book worm, I guess I still am in a way).  Worms? Because they infect so many people so fast, it's important to find an alternative to the current medical solution which is basically poison to the body. For months I prayed to find one so we could get rid of these parasites, visiting my children's rectum every night (sorry for the visual).  I tried a soup recipe with all the types of food supposed to get rid of worms. Even homeopathy doesn't kill the parasites. Vermox, the medical option, works sometimes and sometimes not, but who knows what damage it does while it travels the body.  One day, I come across this post on hpathy.com, one of my favorite homeopathy reference website: "Stumbled upon this post, but I want to let anyone know who feels hopeless about parasites, especially worms. Coconut Family

Crazy Coco!   To anyone who like to visit the Olam HaTeva, the natural health store in Kesem, there's a treasure of coconut-related products. I once decided to buy them all (almost at once) and see what I could do with them. True, I could have found out  first  a recipe and  then  buy the product but where's the fun in that?  So now we're dealing with a few ingredients I need to find a recipe for: coconut oil, coconut water, coconut milk, coconut flour... Let's start with some fun, friendly treats for the children (and Sugar-Free too!) Coconut Popsicle  This recipe will surely please them and add some much-needed vitamins in their day, without them knowing! Nu, which vitamins? In  coconut water  - not to be confused with coconut milk, we'll get to that later - you have the following health benefits: - 15% of daily requirement (DR) of  potassium  in one cup.  - other electrolytes include calcium and magnesium, helps maintain proper fluid balance.  - a lot of water (o
