Garlic Goodness

 Good morning dear readers!

This is a beautiful morning indeed, blue sky, quiet in the house, and I've found some amazing data about garlic to share with you - greatness of our Dear Father, who puts goodness in everything, even a little piece of innocent garlic! psss... at the end of this post you'll find a Tonic recipe using this ingredient.

Let's get started:

First of all, a bit of history. Hippocrates, the father of natural medicine, used garlic in infectious diseases and particularly prescribed it for intestinal disorders. The workers building the Egyptian Pyramids (i.e Jews!) were fed garlic, onions and leeks. A natural antibiotic and antiseptic, garlic has been found to have antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal activity. Let's have a look in more details of all its benefits:

Garlic and Acne

Garlic may be used along with other ingredients like honey, vinegar and turmeric to treat acne scars and even prevent acne growth. Garlic acts as a cleanser and antibiotic for soothing skin pimples and rashes.

Allicin

Aside from producing cardiovascular benefits, allicin is also said to have anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and even anti-fungal properties. Allicin also promotes the development of antioxidants like glutathione and catalase. These antioxydant enzymes detoxify the body, boost the immune system and prevents cancer and other diseases.

Asthma
Boiled cloves of garlic do wonders for asthma treatment. Each night before going to sleep, a glassful of coconut milk with 3 boiled cloves of garlic can bring subsequent relief for such patients. The asthma attacks may be brought under control by having crushed garlic cloves with apple cider vinegar.

Blood clots
Half a raw garlic clove a day can increase body activity to dissolve blood clots, thereby preventing heart attacks and strokes. Strokes and heart attacks may be less likely to occur in people who eat garlic or take garlic supplements.

Blood pressure
Garlic lowers blood pressure. The smooth muscle relaxant Adenosine is found in garlic and this seems to help lower blood pressure.

Cholesterol
Garlic lowers cholesterol by discouraging "bad" LDL cholesterol and increasing "good" HDL cholesterol. A couple of raw garlic cloves daily can bring blood cholesterol levels down in heart patients.

Colds
Garlic has been verified by a research study to prevent and treat common colds. Those who received garlic had significantly fewer colds than those who received placebo. If a cold did come, the symptoms lasted a much shorter time.

Earache
Garlic is used for curing earache, as it has several anti-viral, anti-fungal and antibiotic properties. Garlic oil can be made at home itself, by squeezing the juice of garlic cloves and adding it to olive oil. The mixture should be kept at room temperature for a few days.

Eyes
Garlic is rich in selenium, quercetin and vitamin C that helps eye infections and swellings.

Parasites
Laboratory studies suggest that large quantities of fresh, raw garlic may have antiparasitic properties against the roundworm, Ascaris lumbricoides, which is the most common type of intestinal parasites. Garlic for this purpose however, has not yet been tested in people.

Wounds
Infected wounds. Garlic can be placed on infected wounds for the herbal treatment. It should be mixed with water rather than using it in raw form, as the direct juice can irritate the skin.

Honey-Garlic-Vinegar Tonic Recipe

Apple cider vinegar when combined with honey and garlic create a "super tonic" for health and longevity. This is an excellent home remedy that you want to keep available at all times in your home. It's great as a preventative and for maintaining good health.

People, who took the additional honey-garlic-apple cider vinegar tonic daily, were more vigorous, had fewer colds or infectious diseases and in general were much healthier than those who didn't. This tonic has been called the Miracle Elixir. Here's the recipe on how to make your own miracle elixir home remedy.

Ingredients: 1
cup apple cider vinegar, 1 cup raw honey, 8 cloves garlic.

Directions: Put the ingredients in a blender. Mix on high speed for 60 seconds. Pour mixture into a glass container. Seal and leave in the refrigerator for 5 to 7 days.

Dosage: Normal dosage is 2 tsp in a glass of water or fruit juice- grape or orange juice is best before breakfast. The normal dosage is 2 tsp in a glass of water, daily, first thing in the morning. The mixture is very strong and should not be taken directly.

Options: There are some variations to this with the addition of other ingredients such as lemon, ginger or cayenne pepper. Also add herbs like olive leaf for more immune boosting effects or charcoal for detox benefits.

Diatomaceous Earth - DE - Friend or Foe?

There's a very popular topic around here should you need a subject of conversation - that's worms, yes, of the intestinal kind (not the intellectual kind. I used to be a book worm, I guess I still am in a way).  Worms? Because they infect so many people so fast, it's important to find an alternative to the current medical solution which is basically poison to the body. For months I prayed to find one so we could get rid of these parasites, visiting my children's rectum every night (sorry for the visual).  I tried a soup recipe with all the types of food supposed to get rid of worms. Even homeopathy doesn't kill the parasites. Vermox, the medical option, works sometimes and sometimes not, but who knows what damage it does while it travels the body.  One day, I come across this post on hpathy.com, one of my favorite homeopathy reference website: "Stumbled upon this post, but I want to let anyone know who feels hopeless about parasites, especially worms. Food Gr...

Pellet of Mussar: The Other Song

I think the best part of being a homeopath is to hear people's "other song". Let me explain. As I told my patients and students numerous time, part of us is Divine (we're hoping 100% of the time we're connected to that part!) and part of us, the Other Song, is less. Some people get easily angry, others are more messy, some are often sad, everybody has their "other song". When we look for a remedy (doesn't matter what the official diagnosis is), we want to address the other part of us, the unbalanced part, the one that prevents us from doing our Avodat Hashem.  Hahnemann said (the founder of homeopathy)  that a healthy state is when the "reasoning spirit who inhabits the organism can freely use this healthy instrument to reach the lofty goal of human existence" (from his book The Organon of Medicine ). We're born with this "less divine" part of us, and the job of the homeopath is to hear, identify and treat the other song so t...

Working With Other Modes of Healing

Homeopathy is compatible with all the other modes of healing out there and I have learned not to be dogmatically for, or against, any therapy (even pharmaceuticals).  In our culture, we often need to learn to do less, and in homeopathy, less is more. Once you get in touch with your own inner healer you can customize your healing approach and cut out unnecessary interventions. Excessive biomedical and pharmaceutical treatments will gradually drain the vital force and slow down the homeopathic, vitalistic, source of healing.  A lot of people treated with a mainstream medical approach have been on various types of pharmaceuticals and it's possible that you or your child is currently taking antibiotics, steroids, stimulants, etc.  While some homeopaths will say that remedies will not work while a child is taking pharmaceuticals, if a patient is dedicated to weaning himself or his child off of them under the guidance of a healthcare professional, I will still begin homeo...
